The fifth season of the American animated series The Simpsons was broadcast from September 30, 1993 to May 19, 1994 on the US broadcaster Fox . The German-language first broadcast was broadcast by the private broadcaster ProSieben from August 14, 1994 to July 8, 1995, with the second episode of the season Am Kap der Angst not being broadcast until October 2, 1999.

The season was released on DVD on December 21, 2004 in the United States and on May 19, 2005 in Germany.

Bart receives anonymous death threats in the mail. When Tingeltangel-Bob is released on parole shortly afterwards, the FBI gives the Simpsons a new identity in a strange city. Your new apartment will be a houseboat . But Tingeltangel-Bob followed the family during the move and tried to kill Bart one night. Bart cannot escape from the boat floating in the river, but asks Tingeltangel-Bob to sing the operetta " HMS Pinafore " as a last wish . Meanwhile, the boat drifts towards Springfield, where the police arrest Tingeltangel-Bob.

During an unannounced safety inspection of the nuclear power plant, the inspectors noticed Homer's incompetence. As a result, Homer has to go to college to catch up with his degree. When his progress at university is not satisfactory, he has to take tuition from some “nerds”. His attempt to make the life of the nerdy more exciting leads to them being thrown from the university. Since the nerds are not prepared for a life outside of the university, Homer takes them into his home, which in turn displeases Marge, Bart and Lisa.

Mr. Burns is looking for his missing teddy named Bobo, who reappears at Maggie's. Homer tries to make a lot of money out of it, but Maggie doesn't want to restore the teddy bear at first. Maggie later gives him the teddy anyway, and Homer gets nothing.

Bart accidentally ensures that Principal Skinner is fired when he brings his dog Knecht Ruprecht to school. Ned Flanders is then appointed as the new rector. Bart feels guilty and spends some time with Skinner. During that time, the school was in chaos because Ned couldn't deal with the students. When Skinner returns to the army, Bart is saddened that he has lost his friend and foe. But the latter is also disappointed and comes back after Ned is fired for religious reasons. The hundredth episode of the TV series.

Homer teaches his class at the town's community college the principles of successful marriage. But the students want to know more about Marge and Homer. After all, all of Springfield seems to know the intimate life of the Simpsons. As a punishment, she puts Homer in front of the door, who moves into the tree house.
