Dinner Party - The Late Night Talk (2017: Dinner Party - Marlene invites you to talk ) is a German talk show that has been broadcast on the free TV station Sat.1 since May 30, 2017 .

In August 2017, the program was deleted from the program because the Neustadt an der Weinstrasse administrative court had ruled that the allocation of third-party broadcasting time by the state center for media and communication was illegal. The procedure was not carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Interstate Broadcasting Treaty. Thus, Sat.1 was allowed to remove the program from the program. The program has been broadcast again since November 2017.

Concept and charisma

On the TV show in 2017, Marlene Lufen and three to five guests discussed current political and social issues over dinner . In 2018 there were different orientations of the show, with changing presenters, including Oliver Pocher and Alexander Hold . Simon Beeck has been moderating since 2019 and receives one prominent guest per week. Usually another surprise guest is also present. The guest's life and career are discussed.

The talk will be recorded in a Cologne studio. The program is broadcast in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday at 12:15 a.m. The broadcaster Sat.1 itself is not responsible for the content , as this broadcasting slot is a legally required third-party broadcasting license . The duration of the format is regulated by law for at least five years. (§ 31 Paragraph 6 RStV )

Almost all episodes of Dinner Party will be available free of charge on the YouTube channel of the same name after they have been broadcast .

Production and Background

The assembly of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Center for Media and Communication ( LMK for short ) decided in a meeting on January 11, 2016 to advertise airtime for independent third parties on Sat.1 . Because of legal disputes, Sat.1 has not had to free up airtime for independent third parties since 2014.

In March 2016 it was announced that one of the three broadcast times will be on Tuesday at 12:15 a.m. For this purpose, 21 production companies had applied, each with a format concept; Good Times Fernsehproduktions-GmbH with the format table talks received the approval in September 2016.

In April 2017, Sat.1 announced that the format with the title Dinner Party will be moderated by the presenter Marlene Lufen and will be broadcast from May 30, 2017.

On August 5, 2017, the award procedure for the third-party broadcasting license for Sat.1 was classified as illegal by the judges of the Neustadt an der Weinstrasse administrative court and revoked. Sat.1 then removed the program from its program. Thus 10 out of 12 episodes produced were broadcast.

On October 27, 2017, the Higher Administrative Court of Rhineland-Palatinate decided in an urgent procedure that Sat.1 must show the third-party license format again from November 7th. Six new episodes and one that had already been produced in the summer were broadcast by December 19.

From January 2018, the program was moderated alternately by Oliver Pocher and Ariana Baborie . There was also a studio audience for the first time. Accordingly, the subtitle of the format of Marlene Invites you to Talk has been renamed The Late Night Talk .
