The district of Ocobamba is located in the province of Chincheros in the Apurímac region in central Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. It has an area of ​​217 km². The 2017 census counted 7208 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 13,164, in 2007 it was 7901. The district administration is located in the village of Ocobamba with 884 inhabitants located at an altitude of around 3006  m (as of 2017). Ocobamba is just 18 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Chincheros .

Geographical location

The district of Ocobamba is located in the Andean highlands in the east of the province of Chincheros. In the north it extends to the lower reaches of the Río Pampas .

The Ocobamba district is bordered to the west by the Ranracancha , Rocchacc and El Porvenir districts , to the north by the Oronccoy district ( La Mar province ), to the east by the Andarapa and Talavera districts and to the south by the Santa María de Chicmo district (the latter three Districts are in the Andahuaylas Province ).
