Origin and meaning

The name Drögemüller is made up of the Middle Low German word dröge ("dry", "dürr") and the job title Müller . An old church book from Suderburg can be taken from this: “In the past these people were only called Müller. But since there were so many millers in the village, the 'on the Drögen', i.e. dry, high-living millers, in contrast to the millers who lived more in the swampy Hardau lowlands , were called 'Drögemüller'! "In the Suderburg area, the Drögemüller family (initially in Spelling Drog (e) moller ) demonstrably resident since the 15th century. The family branches that exist today in Böddenstedt ( Uelzen district ) and Scharnhorst ( Celle district ) are descended from Peter Drögemüller from Hösseringen (* around 1575; † 1636), who was most likely a descendant of Ludeke Moller / Drogemoller (* around 1475).
