Eduard August von Brauchitsch (born March 12, 1798 in Lindenau , † November 29, 1869 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

Eduard came from the old Silesian noble family von Brauchitsch . He was the son of Karl von Brauchitsch (1755–1839) and his wife Adolfine, née von Oertzen (1770–1844). His father was a Prussian Landstallmeister of the Kurmark , as well as a gentleman on Wensöwen , Sidden and on Chogow .

Coming from the cadet corps, Brauchitsch joined the 2nd Guard Regiment on foot of the Prussian Army on April 26, 1815 as a second lieutenant . From October 1819 to September 1822 he completed the General War School and was subsequently promoted to prime lieutenant. In the further course of his military career, Brauchitsch served as a wing adjutant to King Friedrich Wilhelm III from August 1838 until his death . Promoted to colonel on May 10, 1848 , he was commander of the 31st Infantry Regiment from August 5, 1848 and was entrusted with the command of the infantry brigade of the 3rd combined division for the duration of the Baden 1849 campaign . For his achievements he received the Commander's Cross 1st Class of the Order of the Zähringer Löwen . From May 4, 1850 to November 4, 1851, Brauchitsch commanded the 1st Guard Regiment on foot , then took over the 2nd Guard Landwehr Brigade and became Major General on March 23, 1852 and General à la suite des on April 3, 1852 King . In the following years he had various uses as brigade commander until he was finally appointed commander of the 2nd division on February 14, 1857 . Shortly thereafter, on April 9, 1857, he was promoted to lieutenant general and, while maintaining his command, he was also appointed adjutant general to the king. From July 1, 1860, Brauchitsch acted as governor of Luxembourg . As such, promoted to General of the Infantry on June 25, 1864, he was awarded the Order of the Crown, First Class, on April 26, 1865 on the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service . Brauchitsch was released from his position in Luxembourg on August 24, 1867. Most recently he served as President of the General Order Commission.

Brauchitsch worked as a legal knight of the Order of St. John in the Balley Brandenburg from 1856 .

His grave is on the Invalidenfriedhof in Berlin.

He married on June 9, 1820 in Rattey Elisabeth von Oertzen, widowed von Dewitz (1791-1839) married. The marriage had eight children:

Brauchitsch had married Auguste von Schenck (1819-1892) in Mansfeld on June 22, 1842 in his second marriage. The following other children emerged from the marriage:
