Louis Nicolaus Eduard von Brauchitsch (born May 14, 1857 in Oliva , † January 12, 1930 in Coburg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Louis was a son of the Prussian general of the infantry Eduard von Brauchitsch (1798-1869) and his second wife Auguste, née von Schenck (1819-1892). The three brothers or stepbrothers Karl (1822–1896), Eduard (1827–1889) and Konrad (1853–1916) became Prussian major general .

Military career

After visiting the officer children's school in Luxembourg , the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale) and the high schools in Berlin and Potsdam Brauchitsch came on April 15, 1876 as an ensign in the King's Grenadier Regiment (2nd West Prussian) no. 7 of the Prussian Army in Liegnitz . He was promoted to secondary lieutenant by mid-October 1877 and from the end of October 1878 he was in command of the 1st Silesian Dragoons Regiment No. 4 for one year . On October 21, 1879 he was transferred to Posensche Uhlan Regiment No. 10 . From January 23, 1883 until his death, Brauchitsch was in command of his regiment chief , Prince August von Württemberg , as an orderly officer . For his work in this position he received the Knight's Cross First Class of the Frederick Order . After brief employment in the regiment, he was commanded from the end of September 1885 to mid-August 1889 as an inspection officer at the war school in Neisse and in the meantime rose to prime lieutenant in early March 1887 . On June 16, 1891, Brauchitsch was commanded as adjutant of the 10th Cavalry Brigade and transferred to the 2nd Hanoverian Uhlan Regiment No. 14 as Rittmeister on May 17, 1892 while remaining in this command . This was followed in mid-February 1894 as chief of the 5th squadron in the Uhlan regiment "Prince August of Württemberg" (Posensches) No. 10 in Züllichau . As a major , Brauchitsch was transferred to the staff of the Thuringian Uhlan Regiment No. 6 in Hanau on April 18, 1901 . On July 18, 1902, he was commissioned to lead the combined hunter detachment on horseback. In this capacity he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in mid-May 1905 , on September 15, 1905, with effect from October 1, 1905, he was commissioned to lead the Rider Regiment on Horses No. 2 and on October 19, 1905, he was appointed regiment commander. As a colonel , Brauchitsch was commissioned on March 20, 1911 to lead the 9th Cavalry Brigade in Glogau , appointed commander of this brigade on June 16, 1911 and promoted to major general on March 22, 1912. In approval of his leave request Brauitsch was on July 20, 1912 awarded the Red Eagle II. Class with oak leaves and the statutory board for disposition made.

During the First World War , Brauchitsch was reused several times as a ZD officer. He was initially in command of Glogau from October 25, 1914 to November 19, 1915 and received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. From December 8, 1915 to September 6, 1916 he was assigned to the stage inspection of the 12th Army with the fees of a brigade commander . After all, he was district chief in occupied Belgium from October 20, 1916 , until his mobilization provision was lifted for the last time on March 24, 1918 , conferring the character of Lieutenant General.

Brauchitsch married Anna Feder (1867-1919) on February 1, 1891 in Coburg. His second marriage was on January 8, 1921 in Gotha with her sister Marie, widowed von Graevenitz (1867-1921). In his third marriage, Brauchitsch was married to Erna Thelemann, widowed Kleine (* 1878), from July 9, 1923. The children Heinrich (* 1892) and Annemarie (1896–1903) emerged from the first marriage.
