Edward Hutchinson Robbins (born February 9, 1758 in Milton , Province of Massachusetts Bay , † December 29, 1829 there ) was an American politician . Between 1802 and 1806 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts .

Career

Edward Robbins graduated from Harvard University in 1775 . After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1779, he began to work in this profession. He was also a member of his state's constituent assembly. Between 1793 and 1802 he was President of the Massachusetts House of Representatives . In the meantime, he also served as a probate judge in Norfolk County . In 1799 Robbins was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . He was a member of the Federalist Party .

After the death of Lieutenant Governor Samuel Phillips in 1802, Robbins was elected to succeed him. He held this office between 1802 and 1806. He was deputy to Governor Caleb Strong . In 1806 and 1808 he ran for the United States House of Representatives , but was defeated both times by Ebenezer Seaver of the Democratic Republican Party . Edward Robbins died on December 29, 1829 in Milton, a city in the greater Boston area . He was a fifth generation ancestor of President Franklin D. Roosevelt .
