Seutukunta

Seutukunta ( Finnish ; plural: seutukunnat ) or ekonomisk region ( Swedish ; plural: ekonomiska regioner ) isthe namein Finland for a regional authority in which several municipalities are united, similar to the administrative communities or comparable municipal associations in Germany .

They form a subdivision of the landscapes (Finnish. Maakunta , Swedish. Landskap ). In the system of the European Union , they are classified as local territorial units at level LAU-1. There are a total of 70 such administrative communities in Finland (as of 2012). They either consist of urban conurbations, several smaller city centers including the surrounding rural areas, or rural communities. You work u. A. in the field of services, commercial policy and land use together. They do not have any statutory decision-making bodies, i. H. decisions are made by the individual municipalities. However, many municipalities have ceded some of their competencies to the committees of the administrative communities.

The Seutukunta were introduced in 1994. Their classification was made on the basis of investigations into commuting and existing community cooperation.
