action
Jessica Grashoff is the hotel manager of a 5-star wellness hotel. When one day the overweight Rike Schlamm applies for a job as an accountant, Jessica throws her upside down on the grounds that “she is too fat and that doesn't fit in a wellness hotel”.
When a thunderstorm approaches and Rike sees a large advertising poster with Jessica from her balcony, she wishes the slim hotel manager "all her fat on her body" - and with success. When Jessica wakes up the next morning, to her utter horror, she is more than 50 kilograms heavier, so that no one - not even Carl, the F&B manager of the hotel with whom she spent last night - will recognize her. The ambulance she summons believes she is crazy, so Jessica has to make up a story to keep out of trouble. So she pretends to be her own sister named Marie. Since Jessica can no longer run the hotel with her current appearance, she hires the now slim Rike as managing director and pretends to be her sister Marie, whom Jessica has put at Rike's side as an assistant.

background
The shooting of the first season lasted from March 5, 2012 to June 15, 2012 and took place both in Vienna and in the Falkensteiner Balance Resort in Stegersbach in Burgenland . The hotel business continued during production. The two main actresses Wolke Hegenbarth and Theresa Underberg had to spend up to four hours in the mask every day of shooting for their respective transformation into the fuller version of their characters. A fat suit , which closed at the wrists and ankles and simulated forty additional kilograms , provided the necessary bulk . Their faces were again padded with silicone layers by the make- up artist Montse Ribé together with David Martí . Hegenbarth, who was temporarily represented by two doubles , described the shoot in a fat suit as "very exhausting". Not only the make-up procedure, but also working with the extra "kilos" was arduous. For example, she had "a cool suit with a cable connection to a cool box" built into her costume.

Exactly one year has passed since Jessica and Rike were transformed. When Rike realizes that every scale shows her weight is way too high, and then also learns that according to the weather forecast a thunderstorm is to be expected in the evening - like in the evening of the transformation - she fears that she and Marie could change back . But when, as a result of a misunderstanding, her already troubled relationship with Klaus almost breaks up, she realizes that she was happier before her transformation and now wants her old body back. Marie is invited to a rendezvous by Oleg, but believes that the invitation comes from Carl. Accordingly, she is disappointed when she realizes the truth. Weeping, she escapes into a taxi, where she gets drunk with champagne. While driving home, Marie receives a call from Rike that she should come to the roof terrace of the hotel "Fitz" immediately. Rike says that she has had enough of this stressful, slim life that is far too exhausting for her and that she wants to be happy with Klaus again. Marie meets Carl and Ella on her way up. Howling and drunk as she is, she tells him that they have known each other for almost two years and that he knows nothing about her and that she is not Marie and not fat either. Carl is totally confused and doesn't know what she's saying. When he follows her on the roof, lightning strikes and images of thin and fat Jessica / Marie mix. What happens now remains open. |
- Remarks
criticism
“With a cool-stylish hotel ambience, predictably amusing teasing with an attractive colleague and toxic teasing with an ambitious secretary, the series offers a catchy setting. In it, the two heroines experience not only their outer, but ultimately also an inner change. Because being fat also shapes the soul and self-confidence. But in the end what counts - comforting and politically correct at the same time - is heart, ability and character. "
"All in all, it gets worse not innovation, Sat.1 with its other two series Danni Lowinski and The Last Cop succeeded. Ultimately, that could be one of the biggest problems with the format. Nevertheless, a beautiful, friendly world with interesting characters was created, which can definitely be described as worth pursuing. "
“There are much worse things from German production. So you can take a look at It gets even thicker . Unfortunately, it is not the big hit. In spite of an essentially correct approach, there is simply a lack of originality. "
