action

Erika and Hartmut have been married for forty years. Erika suffers from progressive Alzheimer's dementia , and their shared memories are gradually disappearing. Together they visit the dance club of their granddaughter Helena and happen to hear songs from the 1970s . Erika suddenly seems young again and moves to the hit Daddy Cool as if she had never forgotten the dance steps. After that, however, she falls back into her own world, yet Hartmut draws hope. If he could bring the seventies back to life, he could bring back Erika, the love of his life. Therefore, together with his granddaughter Helena, he redesigned the apartment in the style of the 1970s and wallpapered the walls with a floral pattern. Meanwhile, Helena, who is in a relationship with Daniela and runs the club together with her, finds out that she is pregnant.

Hartmut seems increasingly overwhelmed with the situation, so his son Thomas asks him to give Erika to a nursing home. After Hartmut refuses, Thomas lets a guardian check the situation, but she is enthusiastic about how carefully Hartmut takes care of Erika and sees no need for guardianship. Hartmut's situation is reported in a newspaper article, and Hartmut is getting more and more encouragement from various sides. He dreams that neighbors and friends will take part in the trip to the 70s and celebrate a street party with Erika and Hartmut zu Dschinghis Khan , but realizes that he cannot turn back time all the time. The next day Erika shows her son Thomas and Hartmut a photo of their neighbor Jochen. It turns out that Erika had a relationship with Jochen and Jochen is Thomas' father. Hartmut also had a relationship with his neighbor Angi. In the 70s, however, Erika had decided against Jochen and Hartmut, despite their child.

Erika finally comes to the nursing home, where she goes into labor when the family visits Helena . Hartmut is sitting at a bus stop when he receives a photo of Helena and her newborn on his cell phone. In a dream sequence , Erika stops at a bus stop and takes it with her.
