The KF Shkëndija (short for Albanian Klubi Futbollistik Shkëndija ; Macedonian ФК Шкендија , FK Škendija ) is a football club from the city of Tetovo in North Macedonia .
history
KF Shkëndija was founded in 1979 by Albanians from Tetovo with the intention of offering Albanians from all over Yugoslavia a union. This was viewed with skepticism by Yugoslav officials. The club was eventually banned because it was feared it would encourage nationalist sentiments among the Albanians of Yugoslavia. After the Republic of Macedonia declared independence, KF Shkëndija was reintegrated into Macedonian football.
After promotion to the Prva Liga 2010, the club immediately won the Macedonian championship of the 2010/11 season.
By winning the championship, the team qualified for the Champions League for the first time in the club's history . In the second qualifying round, however, Shkëndija lost to Partizan Belgrade 0: 4 and 0: 1.
During the 2013 summer break, the club found itself in its worst financial crisis to date. For a long time, the club's future was uncertain. The supporters of the association (Fan Club Ballistët ) took this as an opportunity to help this association out of this crisis by asking the renowned company Ecolog, also based in Tetovo, for help. Ultimately, Ecolog and its owner Lazim Destani agreed to take over the club after several weeks of advertising with the slogan Ecolog thuaj po (Ecolog say yes), some of the supporters living abroad. Since then, Ecolog has also been the main sponsor of the association.
pendant
The Ultras of Shkëndija call themselves "Ballistët" after Balli Kombëtar , an Albanian nationalist organization that was active during the Second World War. Rivalries exist with supporters of the city rivals FK Teteks Tetovo and those of the capital club FK Vardar Skopje .
