Celebrate & praise
Fieren & Loben is the title of a hymn book , the first edition of which was published in 2003 and which has since been used in the services of the Evangelical Free Churches and Free Evangelical Churches . The publishers (in cooperation with the Bund Evangelisch-Freikirchlicher Gemeinde and the Bund Free Evangelical Congregations in Germany) are Hänssler Verlag (Holzgerlingen), SCM Bundes-Verlag (Witten) and Oncken Verlag (Kassel). Fieren & Loben replaced the hymn book community songs that had been in use since 1978 in the two free church congregational federations .
scope
The hymnbook contains 500 songs , mostly composed of four parts, either as an instrumental accompaniment or as a chant , 75 alternating readings from the Old and New Testament as well as the Our Father and the Apostolic Creed . In the appendix of the hymn book there is a detailed alphabetical index of the composers and poets with short biographical notes and song references. The appendix is supplemented by an alphabetical list of songs and a recommendation of songs that are particularly suitable for singing with children.
Outline of the songs
The first section of this hymn book deals with songs that are suitable for the normal liturgical course of a free church service: adoration , praise of God , intercession , sermon and blessing .
Under the heading “ Church ” it is about the topics community, baptism , Lord's Supper, and mission and service .
A third section offers songs for the special festive times of the church year : Advent , Christmas , New Year , Passion , Easter , Ascension , Pentecost and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ .
A special hymn book chapter takes into account the fact that free church congregations see themselves as part of the so-called revival movement . Songs that invite belief in Jesus Christ and call to conversion and repentance are listed here.
The fifth section is about life in following Jesus . Hymns for the different times of the day and seasons conclude the structure of the song part as the sixth section.
Songs
The editors of the hymnbook were faced with the task, on the one hand, of linking the various song traditions of their free church communities and, on the other hand, with limited possibilities, to select modern hymns, which are characterized by different influences and styles ( e.g. gospel , sacropop , charismatic movement , Taizé ).
Celebrate & Praise contains the traditional Protestant hymns to a relatively large extent. Martin Luther , Paul Gerhardt and Joachim Neander deserve special mention here as hymn poets. Numerous songs of Pietism (e.g. Philipp Friedrich Hiller , Gerhard Tersteegen ), the revival movement (e.g. Fanny J. Crosby , Ernst Gebhardt ) are offered. The typical free church songs come from the pen of Julius Köbner ( Baptist ), Hermann Heinrich Grafe (free Protestant) and Carl Brockhaus and Julius Löwen (both brothers movement ). Composers and poets of modern Christian music from the New Spiritual Song to pop music include Günter Balders , Manfred Siebald , Peter Strauch , Hella Heizmann , Jörg Swoboda , Gerhard Schnitter , Margret Birkenfeld , Jürgen Werth , Siegfried Fietz , Johannes Nitsch , Hartmut Handt and Judy Bailey . And finally, the charismatic movement of the 20th century clearly left its mark and is represented, for example, by Graham Kendrick .
Working aid for celebrations & praise
In January 2010 a work aid was published as a supplement to the hymn book, which enables the selection of songs from a wide range of keywords. Enclosed is a list of passages from the Bible that are reflected in the hymns. The working aid also contains a concordance of stanzas as well as other aids for worship and private use of celebrations and praise .
Discography
In 2003 the first episodes of the CD series of the same name appeared parallel to the songbook. So far, a total of seven concept albums have been released in the Fieren & Loben series. The individual episodes are each dedicated to a subject area from the songbook and were compiled and produced by Gerhard Schnitter from titles in secondary use as well as newly published new recordings until 2005. The seventh episode was produced under the production of Samuel Jersak .
