Ferdinand Friedrich Wilhelm Georg Freiherr von Stein-Liebenstein zu Barchfeld (born March 21, 1832 in Zanegg , Hungary , † June 23, 1912 in Niederschmalkalden ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Ferdinand was the son of KK Supreme Wilhelm of stone Liebenstein to Barchfeld (1797-1849) and his wife Friederike, nee Baroness von Schlotheim (1806-1882).

Military career

After attending the grammar school and the cadet house in Kassel , Stein joined the replacement squadron of the 2nd Hussar Regiment of the Electorate of Hesse on March 22, 1849 as Portepeefähnrich . He was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-May 1850 , but quit his service six months later. On December 1, 1852, Stein was re-employed in his regiment. He served briefly as a regimental adjutant before he was commanded as adjutant of the cavalry brigade on December 9, 1857 under position à la suite . In this position he rose to prime lieutenant in February 1858 and took part in the war against Prussia in 1866 .

After the lost war and the annexation of the electorate , Stein was accepted into the Association of the Prussian Army on October 30, 1866 and employed as a cavalry captain and squadron chief in the Westphalian Dragoon Regiment No. 7 in Stendal . In this position he took part in the fighting at Beaumont , Sedan and Stains , the siege of Paris and the bombardment of Toul in 1870/71 during the war against France .

Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, after the peace treaty on December 14, 1871, he was transferred to the Oldenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 19 , which was still in the occupation army in France. After his departure, Kaiser Wilhelm II honored him in August 1891 with the star of the Crown Order II. Class and on May 27, 1908 by being awarded the character of Lieutenant General.
