Fontenay is a municipality with a population of 88 (as at 1st January 2017) in the French department of Indre in the Region Center-Val de Loire . It belongs to the canton of Levroux (until 2015: canton of Vatan ) in the Arrondissement of Issoudun . The inhabitants are called Fontenois .

In addition to the main settlement, Fontenay also includes the hamlets of Lussault , Les Deserts and Les Planches . Neighboring municipalities are Guilly in the north, La Chapelle-Saint-Laurian in the east, Liniez in the south, Bouges-le-Château in the west and Rouvres-les-Bois in the west and north-west.
