Vatan is a French commune with 1,988 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Region Center-Val de Loire , in the department of Indre . Vatan belongs to the Arrondissement of Issoudun and the Canton of Levroux .
Vatan is located about 30 kilometers west of Bourges on the Autoroute A20 ( L'Occitane ) and was the starting point of the 11th stage of the Tour de France 2009 .
The church in Vatan is named after Saint Laurian because he was beheaded in the community in the 5th century .
