Chabris is a commune with 2,750 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Indre in the Region Center-Val de Loire and belongs to Arrondissement Issoudun and Canton Valençay .
Chabris is derived from the Gallic Carobriva and refers to the Cher River . The residents refer to themselves as chabriots . There is a partnership with Lonsee in Baden-Württemberg .
geography
The place is located in the north of the Indre department not far from the border with the Loir-et-Cher department in the Boischaut Nord natural landscape . The municipality is located eight kilometers from Saint-Christophe-en-Bazelle and 42 kilometers from Issoudun .
The Cher and Fouzon rivers flow through the municipality .
history
The discovery of flint fragments shows that the area of the community was settled in the Neolithic Age . At the end of the 5th century AD, Saint-Phalier moved into a hermitage near Chabris, where he died in 525. In the 12th century Robert d'Arbrissel founded a nunnery in Chabris. The Archbishops of Bourges resided in the so-called Château de Bourges in Chabris. During the Huguenot Wars , the Saint-Phalier church was sacked by Huguenots under Admiral Gaspard II. De Coligny . The residence of the Archbishops of Bourges was also looted and destroyed. In the Franco-Prussian War there were 11 fatalities on the part of the Chabriots, in World War I 121. In the fight against Nazi Germany during the Second World War , a total of 14 inhabitants of Chabris died.

Attractions
The église Saint-Christophe-et-Saint-Phalier is the main Catholic church in Chabris. It was built in the 12th century and got its current shape in the 15th century. Since October 18, 1910, it has been listed as a Monument historique .
Personalities
- Luc Montagnier (* 1932), French virologist and Nobel Prize winner .
- Michail Andrejewitsch Ossorgin (1878–1942), Russian writer and journalist; lived in Chabris from 1940 until his death on November 17, 1942, he is buried there.
