François Fortier (born June 13, 1979 in Beauport , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Marquis de Jonquière in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey since June 2015 .

Career

François Fortier has been playing ice hockey since he was five and joined the Faucons de Sherbrooke in 1996 in the Canadian junior league Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , where he scored 99 goals and 117 assists in three years and a total of 193 games. In his last season in the LHJMQ, the winger also played a game for the AHL team Hartford Wolf Pack for which he was on the ice in 63 games in the next season and scored 15 points . In the 2000/01 season Fortier was on the ice for seven games for the ECHL team Charlotte Checkers and also completed 28 appearances at Wolf Pack as well as 28 games for league rivals Quebec Citadelles .

In the 2001/02 season, the striker ran in 71 main round games and 10 play-off games for the Mississippi Sea Wolves and scored 36 goals and 55 assists before moving to the German Ice Hockey League for the next season . Here, the left-handed shooter scored 20 goals and 19 assists in 52 games for the Schwenninger Wild Wings in the 2002/03 season and then signed a contract with the Augsburg Panthers , for which he ran for a total of two years.

In the 2005/06 season , the attacker together with Benoît Gratton and Marc Beaucage formed the first row of league rivals Hamburg Freezers , the so-called French Connection . In his first season, Fortier was the best scorer alongside Jeff Ulmer and also top scorer on the Elbe. After the Freezers played a disastrous 2009/10 season, which they ended in penultimate place in the table, his contract in Hamburg was not extended. For the 2010/11 season he then moved to the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian ice hockey league , where he played in an attacking formation with Gratton, as in Hamburg.

Fortier's transfer to the EC VSV was confirmed on April 17, 2014, but after poor performance he was released from his contract in November of the same year. A few days later, the Canadian went to the Norwegian GET-ligaen to play for Vålerenga . In the summer of 2015 he returned to North America and signed a contract with Marquis de Jonquière from the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey .
