Friedrich Wilhelm Alexander Freiherr von Buddenbrock (born January 17, 1815 in Wehlau , † December 8, 1894 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 59th Infantry Brigade .

Life

origin

Friedrich was a son of the Prussian major Leopold Freiherr von Buddenbrock (1783–1869) and his wife Sophie, née von Heister (1791–1868), a daughter of Lieutenant General Levin von Heister . His brother Gustav became a Prussian infantry general .

Military career

Buddenbrock visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . Subsequently, on August 7, 1832, he was transferred as a second lieutenant to the 21st Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . In 1837 he was assigned to the rifle factory in Danzig and in 1839 to the 1st Artillery Brigade . In 1843 Buddenbrock rose to the rank of adjutant of the 1st Battalion and in 1848 took part in the battle at Wreschen in the suppression of the uprising in the province of Posen . After he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in August 1848 , he served as a company commander in his main regiment from November 1850 to February 1851. This was followed by his command of the 2nd Combined Reserve Battalion and promotion to captain from March 1851 in the same capacity . When he was appointed company commander , he returned to the 21st Infantry Regiment on December 16, 1853, and from April to September 1855 was in command as a company commander in the Infantry Training Battalion. With promotion to major Buddenbrock was on June 14, 1859 commander of the III. Battalions in the 14th Landwehr Regiment in Schneidemühl . On May 8, 1860, he was commanded as a battalion leader to the 14th Combined Infantry Regiment, from which July 1, 1860, the 7th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 54 emerged . Buddenbrock received command of the fusilier battalion in Köslin and rose to lieutenant colonel on June 25, 1864 .

During the war against Austria he led his battalion in 1866 in the battles near Gitschin and Königgrätz . After the peace treaty Buddenbrock was promoted to colonel on September 20, 1866 and for his work with the Crown Order III. Excellent with swords. On October 30, 1866 he was appointed commander of Infantry Regiment No. 75 in Harburg . For the duration of the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Buddenbrock was commander of the 1st combined Pomeranian Landwehr Brigade on July 18, 1870, with which he participated in the sieges of Strasbourg and Belfort as well as in the battles near St. Germain, Vegelois, Bessoncourt , Severans, Adelsmans, Danjoulin, Pérouse and Les Perches . Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , he was promoted to major general on January 18, 1871, the day of the imperial proclamation , and appointed commander of the newly formed 59th Infantry Brigade in Metz on March 20, 1871 . With the award of the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves, Buddenbrock was put up for disposal on April 13, 1872 with a pension . He died on December 8, 1894 in Berlin and was buried on December 11, 1894 in the Invalidenfriedhof .

Buddenbrock married on April 28, 1841 in Stargard Karoline von Schöning (1821-1896) from the house of Lübenow , a daughter of Joachim Moritz von Schöning. The couple had several children:
