Gębałka ( German  Gembalken ) is a place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . He belongs to the rural community Pozezdrze (Possessern , 1938-1945 large garden) in the powiat Węgorzewski ( Angerburg district ).

Geographical location

Gębałka is located in the northeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , twelve kilometers east of the district town of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) .

history

The founding of the small village called Schikorra at the time goes back to 1562. 1785 Gembalofken or after 1785 Gembalcken called (again, the place name is like Schikorra on behalf of settlers back), the village was in the 1874 District Przerwanken integrated, the - about 1,907 in District Wiesental renamed - to 1945 and county Angerburg in the administrative district of Gumbinnen belonged to the Prussian province of East Prussia .

In 1910, 158 inhabitants were registered in Gembalken. Their number rose to 171 by 1925, was 152 in 1933 and finally only 139 in 1939.

As a result of the war, the village came to Poland in 1945 with southern East Prussia and received the Polish form of the name Gębałka . Today the place is a Schulzenamt ( Polish sołectwo ) in the association of the rural community Pozezdrze (Possessern , 1938-1945 Großgarten) in the powiat Węgorzewski ( Angerburg district ), until 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship belongs.

Religions

Before 1945, the population of Gembalken was predominantly of Protestant denomination and was incorporated into the parish of the Kutten Church in the church province of East Prussia of the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union . The Catholics were parish in the Church of the Good Shepherd Angerburg in the Diocese of Warmia .

Today Gębałka belongs on the one hand to the Catholic parish in Kuty in the diocese of Ełk (Lyck) of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland , on the other hand to the Protestant parish in Węgorzewo (Angerburg) , a subsidiary of the parish in Giżycko (Lötzen) in the diocese of Masuria in the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .

A school was founded in Gembalken after 1860. It was run in one class. At the beginning it was directed by teacher Czybulla , at the end of 1945 by teacher Bacher .
