Stręgiel ( German Groß Strengeln ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the urban and rural municipality of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) in the powiat Węgorzewski ( Angerburg district ).
Geographical location
Stręgiel is located on the northeast bank of the Great Strengelner See ( Jezioro Stręgiel in Polish ) in the northeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . The district town of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) is eight kilometers to the west.
history
The place called Stringen at the time was founded in 1529. A later form of name was around 1770 Stringel . On 6 May 1874, the village seat and thus its name to one was District , which existed until 1945 and for district Angerburg in Administrative district Gumbinnen the Prussian province of East Prussia belonged.
Groß Strengeln had 266 inhabitants in 1910. The number rose to 327 by 1925, was 266 in 1933 and was 262 in 1939.
On October 17, 1928, the previously independent manor district of Angerburg, domain office - it was the area of Groß Strengeln-See - was incorporated into the rural community of Groß Strengeln.
As a result of the war, the village came to Poland in 1945 along with all of southern East Prussia and since then has borne the Polish form of name "Stręgiel". Today the place is the seat of a Schulzenamt ( Polish Sołectwo ) and a village in the network of the urban and rural municipality Węgorzewo in the powiat Węgorzewski, before 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then it belongs to the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship.

Groß Strengeln was parish church until 1945 to Angerburg ( Polish : Węgorzewo ): the Protestant part of the population belonged to the Angerburg parish church in the parish of Angerburg within the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union , the Catholic part was in the Angerburg Church of the Good Shepherd in the Deanery Masuria II ( Seat: Johannisburg , Pisz in Polish) incorporated in the former Diocese of Warmia .
Today the Catholic church members are assigned to the parish in Kuty (Kutten) with the chapel in Krzywińskie (Krzywinsken , 1927 to 1945 Sonnheim) . She belongs to the deanery Węgorzewo in the Diocese of Ełk (Lyck) of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland . The Protestant church members still belong to Węgorzewo, a branch parish of Giżycko (Lötzen) in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

Stręgiel can be reached in a short time via a side road that leads to Jakunówko (Jakunowken , 1938 to 1945 Jakunen) from Węgorzewo. Until 1945, the district town was also the nearest train station with rail connections to all of East Prussia . Today all routes are no longer in operation.
