history

The small estate village called Teiche at the time and later was called Stawischken after 1785 and then Stawisken until 1938 . In 1874 the place was incorporated into the newly established district Steinort ( Polish: Sztynort ), which belonged to the district of Angerburg in the administrative district of Gumbinnen in the Prussian province of East Prussia . In 1910 there were 95 inhabitants in Stawisken, which merged with the neighboring towns of Groß Steinort (Sztynort), Klein Steinort (Sztynort Mały) and Stobben (Pniewo) and the island of Kirsaiten (Kirsajty) to form a new rural community . On June 3 (officially confirmed on July 16) of the year 1938, Stawisken was renamed "Ponds" for political and ideological reasons to defend against foreign-sounding names.

In 1945 the town was in consequence of the war with the southern East Prussia under the name form "Stawiska" Poland assigned. Today it is part of the urban and rural community of Węgorzewo in the powiat Węgorzewski , before 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then it has belonged to the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

church

Stawisken resp. Until 1945, Teichen was parish in the Protestant Church of Rosengarten in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd in Angerburg in what was then the Diocese of Warmia . Today the Catholic residents of Stawiska are incorporated into the parish of the Christ the King's Church in Radzieje in the current diocese of Ełk (Lyck) of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland , while the Protestant population is part of the parish in Węgorzewo, a branch of the parish of Giżycko (Lötzen) in the diocese of Giżycko (Lötzen) of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .
