Pniewo ( German  Stobben ) is a settlement ( Polish Osada ) in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , which belongs to the urban and rural community of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) in the powiat Węgorzewski ( Angerburg district ).

Geographical location

Pniewo is located on the west bank of the Stobbensee ( Polish Jezioro Pniewskie ) in the northeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The district town of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) is eight kilometers to the northeast.

history

As a small wall of before 1785 was Pniewen and then to 1945 Stobben called later Gutsrt in 1570 founded. In 1874, the village in the newly built office district was Steinort ( Polish Sztynort ) incorporated, which the district Angerburg in Administrative district Gumbinnen the Prussian province of East Prussia belonged. In 1910 the Stobben manor had 142 inhabitants.

On October 17, 1928, Stobben merged with the neighboring towns of Groß Steinort (Sztynort), Klein Steinort (Sztynort Mały), Stawisken (1938 to 1945 ponds, in Polish: Stawiska) and the island of Kirsaiten (Kirsajty) to form the new rural municipality of Steinort (Sztynort).

As a result of the war, the village came to Poland in 1945 along with all of southern East Prussia and has since been called "Pniewo". Today it is part of the urban and rural community Węgorzewo in the powiat Węgorzewski , before 1998 part of the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then it has belonged to the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

Religions

Before 1945, the predominantly Protestant population of Stobbens was parish in the Church of Rosengarten in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union , the few Catholics in the Church of the Good Shepherd in Angerburg in what was then the Diocese of Warmia .

Since 1945, the majority of the inhabitants of Pniewo have been of Catholic denomination and belong to the parish of the Christ the King's Church in Radzieje in the current diocese of Ełk (Lyck) of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland . The few Protestant church members are assigned to the parish in Węgorzewo, a branch parish of the parish Giżycko (Lötzen) in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .

Pniewo is conveniently located on a side road that leads from the voivodship road DW 650 near Przystań ( Pristanien , 1938 to 1945 Passdorf ) via Kamionek Wielki (brickworks Steinort) to Stara Różanka (Alt Rosenthal) on the voivodship road DW 591 .

The next train station is Kamionek Wielki on the Kętrzyn – Węgorzewo (Rastenburg – Angerburg) railway line, which is no longer regularly operated .
