Zielony Ostrów ( German  Bergenthal ) is a place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the urban and rural municipality of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) in the powiat Węgorzewski ( Angerburg district ).

Geographical location

Zielony Ostrów is located directly on the Polish-Russian border in the northeast of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship north of the Nordenburg Lake ( Jezioro Oświn in Polish ). The former district town of Gerdauen ( Russian: Schelesnodoroschny ), which is now on Russian territory, is 17 kilometers to the northwest, today's district metropolis of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) is 15 kilometers to the southeast.

history

The former small village of Bergenthal is closely connected in its history with the - now part of Russia - and former city of Nordenburg ( Russian: Krylowo ), which is now part of the urban community of Schelesnodoroschnyim Pravdinsk Raion and is barely more than a kilometer away. Until 1945 it belonged to the county Gerdauen in the administrative district of Konigsberg the Prussian province of East Prussia .

As a result of the war, the city of Nordenburg with northern East Prussia came to the Soviet Union in 1945 , while Bergenthal with southern East Prussia was assigned to Poland . Since then, the place has borne the Polish name form "Zielony Ostrów". Today it is a village within the urban and rural municipality of Węgorzewo in the powiat Węgorzewski , before 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

church

Bergenthal was parish in the Protestant Church in Nordenburg ( Russian Krylowo ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic parish of St. Bruno in Insterburg (Tschernjachowsk) in the Diocese of Warmia until 1945 . Today Zielony Ostrów is part of the Catholic parish of St. Josef in Węgielsztyn (Engelstein) with the nearby branch church Perły (Perlswalde) in the diocese of Ełk of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland , and the Protestant parish in Węgorzewo (Angerburg) , a branch of the parish in Giżycko (Lötzen) in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

traffic

Zielony Ostrów is very remote on a side road that leads from Pasternak (Waldhof) to here and continued directly into the city of Nordenburg (Krylowo) until 1945 , but now ends at the border. There is no train connection.
