Karłowo is located in the north of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, northwest of Lake Rehsau ( Jezioro Rydzówka in Polish ). To the district town of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) it is 12 kilometers in a southeast direction.

history

The former village called Carlswalde before 1898 was first mentioned in 1818 and until 1945 actually consisted of only one large farm. It was created as a preliminary to the community Rehsau ( Polish Rydzówka ) and assigned with the mother community to the district of Engelstein (Węgielsztyn). It belonged to 1945 the district Angerburg in Administrative district Gumbinnen the Prussian province of East Prussia .

As a result of the war, Rehsau and Karlswalde came to Poland in 1945 along with all of southern East Prussia . The German name "Karlswalde" was changed to the Polish "Karłowo".

Karłowo is now the seat of a Schulzenamt (Polish Sołectwo), which is jointly responsible for Rydzówka (Rehsau) . Karłowo is part of the urban and rural municipality Węgorzewo in the powiat Węgorzewski , before 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

church

Before 1945, Karlswalde was parish in the Evangelical Church of Engelstein in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd in Angerburg in the Diocese of Warmia .

Today the village is part of the now Catholic parish church Heilig Kreuz in Srokowo in the Archdiocese of Warmia in the Polish Roman Catholic Church or the Protestant parish Węgorzewo, a branch of the parish Giżycko (Lötzen) in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .
