Matyski ( German Steinhof (near Angerburg) ) is a small town in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , which belongs to the urban and rural municipality of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) in the powiat Węgorzewski ( Angerburg district ).
Geographical location
Matyski is located north of the Great Strengelner See ( Jezioro Stręgiel in Polish ) in the northeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. It is seven kilometers to the west to the district town of Węgorzewo (Angerburg) .
history
The place, called Matiszig until 1863 , has been mentioned since 1844. The Gutsort was in until 1945 as a dwelling place rural community Stręgiel (United Strengeln) in the same District , of the district Angerburg in Administrative district Gumbinnen the Prussian province of East Prussia .
As a result of the war, Steinhof came to Poland in 1945 with all of southern East Prussia and has been called "Matyski" ever since. Today the small settlement is part of the urban and rural community Węgorzewo in the powiat Węgorzewski , before 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
Religions
In terms of church, Steinhof was oriented towards Angerburg ( Polish : Węgorzewo ) until 1945 : to the Evangelical Angerburg parish church in the parish of Angerburg in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and to the Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd there in the Deanery Masuria II (seat: Johannisburg ( Polish Pisz ) ) in the then diocese of Warmia .
Today the Catholic population of Matyski belongs to the parish in Kuty ( German Kutten ) in the deanery Węgorzewo in the current diocese of Ełk of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland . The Protestant church members are oriented towards Węgorzewo , a branch parish of Giżycko (Lötzen) in the Masuria diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .
