Sobin ( German  Karlshöh ) is a place within the city of Węgorzewo ( Polish: część miasta Węgorzewa ) (Angerburg) in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the urban and rural municipality of Węgorzewo in the powiat Węgorzewski ( Angerburg district ).

Geographical location

Sobin is located two kilometers southeast of the city center of Węgorzewo , west of the route of the former railway line Angerburg – Lötzen and east of the arterial road to Giżycko (Lötzen) .

history

The small village, once called Karlshöh , was essentially a large farm before 1945. Until June 19, 1861 the place was called Abbau Carius , then (before 1898) Carlshöh . Until 1945, Karlshöh was a residential area in the municipality of Kehlen in the district of the same name in the district of Angerburg in the administrative district of Gumbinnen in the Prussian province of East Prussia .

As a result of the war, Karlshöh and the southern part of East Prussia came to Poland in 1945 and received the Polish form of the name “Sobin”. Today the place is part of the urban and rural municipality Węgorzewo in the powiat Węgorzewski , before 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.

church

Before 1945, Karlshöh was parish through the mother community of Kehlen in the Protestant parish church of Angerburg in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic parish church of the Good Shepherd in Angerburg in the diocese of Warmia . Even today there is a church connection to the city of Węgorzewo , which today belongs to the Catholic diocese Ełk (Lyck) or as a subsidiary parish of the Evangelical parish in Giżycko (Lötzen) in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland .

traffic

The small town of Sobin can be reached today via the Polish state road 63 (former German Reichsstraße 131 ), which is located in the south-eastern part of the urban area of Węgorzewo “ul. Łuczańska “means. A feeder road leads directly into the village. A rail connection no longer exists since the rail lines leading to and from Węgorzewo are no longer in operation.
