Georg Christian Friedrich von Kameke (born August 10, 1770 at Gut Freudenthal, Heiligenbeil district , † October 16, 1837 in Stettin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

His parents were the Prussian captain Heinrich Arnold Friedrich Wilhelm von Kameke (* June 22, 1743 - April 10, 1827) and his wife Friederike Augustine, née Christgan (* December 18, 1742; † June 27, 1787).

Military career

Kameke attended various schools where his father was stationed, so he came to Heiligenbeil , Königsberg and Frankfurt (Oder) . On April 5, 1785, he joined the "von Wylich and Lottum" dragoon regiment of the Prussian army as a Junker . There he became an ensign on July 26, 1787 and took part in the campaign in Holland in the same year .

On May 26, 1788 he became second lieutenant . During the First Coalition War Kameke fought in the cannonade of Valmy , the battles of Pirmasens and Kaiserslautern as well as the battles near Stromberg, Zweibrücken and Hermersberg. In a skirmish at the Kettrich court , he defeated the attacking French, captured two cannons and made a few prisoners. For this, Kameke received the order Pour le Mérite on August 21, 1793 . He was just 23 years old at the time. By the end of February 1806 he was promoted to staff captain . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the battle near Ratzeburg and was captured with the surrender in Ratekau , but was exchanged again. He was then seriously wounded in the battle near Dirschau, but was able to excel again in the defense of Danzig. On December 17, 1807 he was then captain and squadron chief in the Brandenburg Dragoon Regiment. He became major on October 21, 1812 and fought in the same year in the battles near Graefenthal, Wollgrund and Garossenkrug. On November 12, 1812, he was transferred to the Lithuanian Dragoon Regiment as squadron chief and then to the 2nd West Prussian Dragoon Regiment on July 11, 1813.

During the Wars of Liberation , Kameke fought in the battles near Großgörschen and Bautzen , where he received the Iron Cross 2nd class. He also fought at Großbeeren , Dennewitz (here he received the Iron Cross 1st Class), Leipzig , Laon and the battles at Danigkow, Colditz, Königswartha, Arnheim, Crespy and West-Malen. During that time he was on December 8, 1813, Lieutenant Colonel and on May 12, 1814, commander of the "Queen" Dragoon Regiment . In 1815 he fought at Ligny , where his horse was shot, and at Belle Alliance , where he earned the Order of St. Anne II. On October 2, 1815, he was promoted to colonel .

After the war, on May 5, 1821, he was commander of the 3rd Landwehr Brigade and the regiment aggregated . On March 20, 1821 he received permission to wear the uniform of the 2nd Cuirassier Regiment, which had emerged from the "Queen" Dragoon Regiment. On March 30, 1822, he was promoted to major general with a patent dated March 31, 1822. Under awarded the Red Eagle II. Class with oak leaves was Kameke on 17 March 1835 as Lieutenant General with a pension of 2700 thalers adopted . He died on October 16, 1837 in Stettin of dropsy of the breast .
