Change in the number of countries in the Global Peace Index in the various point classes

The Global Peace Index ( German  World Peace Index ) is an attempt to peacefulness display of nations and regions based on a relative comparison. It is drawn up and published by an international body consisting of peace experts, peace institutes, expert commissions and the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney , in cooperation with the British magazine The Economist .

The first version of the index was published in May 2007 and is considered to be the first study to provide a benchmark for the peacefulness of countries around the world. The study was supported by the Dalai Lama , Archbishop Desmond Tutu , former US President Jimmy Carter and Queen Nūr of Jordan, among others .

The World Peace Index currently divides a total of 162 countries into 5 main categories, with Category 1 for the most peaceful region and 5 for the region with the highest violence statistics based on the school grading system.

The international body consists of the following people:

The most peaceful countries have low scores. Countries marked in green are among the 20% most peaceful countries of the respective year; Countries marked in red are among the most belligerent 20%. In 2009 the valuation method was changed.
