geography

Map of the municipality

The municipality is located in the southwest of the voivodeship in the former West Prussia and borders on the Masovian Voivodeship to the south and the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship to the west . The district town of Działdowo (Soldau) is about 12 kilometers to the east. Neighboring municipalities are Grodziczno in the north, Rybno in the northeast, Płośnica in the east, in the Masovian Voivodeship Lubowidz in the south and in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship Górzno , Bartniczka and Brzozie in the west.

There are a number of small lakes in the area, the largest of which is Jezioro Lidzbarskie (Lake Lautenburg) with around 130 hectares . The most important flowing water is the river Wel (wave) . The community has an area of 255.7 km², 44 percent of which is used for agriculture and 46 percent for forestry.

history

The municipality has belonged to Poland since 1920. The rural community was re-established in 1973 after its territory was divided into Gromadas from 1954 to 1972 . Urban and rural parishes were united to form urban and rural parishes in 1990/1991. From 1945 to 1950 its area belonged to the Warsaw Voivodeship , from 1950 to 1975 it was part of the Olsztyn Voivodeship and then until 1998 to the Ciechanów Voivodeship . On January 1, 1999, the community came back to the powiat Działdowski and the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship, which was newly formed and roughly corresponds to the Polish part of the former province of East Prussia .
