Gonzaga is a municipality in the Cagayan province of the Philippines . The municipality is located in the northeast of the province. In 2015 the 567.4 km² area had 38,892 inhabitants, resulting in a population density of 69 inhabitants per km². The eastern area of Gonzaga is very mountainous. In the west there are rice fields in the river plains and around the Cagua volcano . A major educational institution in the community is Cagayan State University .
