Calayan

Calayan is a municipality in the Cagayan province of the Philippines . The municipality is located in the extreme north of the province. In 2015 the 533 km² area had 16,702 inhabitants, resulting in a population density of 31 inhabitants per km². Most of the Babuyan Islands belong to the municipality , including the island of the same name Calayan (196 km²) and the islands of Babuyan Claro (100 km²), Camiguin (166 km²) and Dalupiri (50 km²). Smaller islands are Pamoctan (0.3 km²) and Pinon (0.04 km²) west of Camiguin, Panuitan (2.3 km²) north of Cagayan, Irao south of Dalupiri, Didicas (0.7 km²) and the Guinapao Rocks ( Dilayag) (<0.3 km²). Of the Babuyan Islands, only Fuga with its side islands Barit and Mabag does not belong to the municipality of Calayan, but to the city of Aparri . The 715 meter high Camiguin de Babuyanes volcano is located in the south of the municipality.
