For the first time, Hör mal 'n pray to was broadcast on November 3, 1954. Since April 3, 1956, the program has been running continuously every weekday.

Today Hör mal 'n pray to can be heard within the morning broadcasts of three state programs of the NDR (on NDR 90.3 ; NDR 1 Lower Saxony ; NDR 1 Welle Nord ). Since April 1984 she has been responsible for the NDR Central Redaction Low German in the NDR Landesfunkhaus Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel.

The broadcast format, which is up to 2 minutes long, brings short literary works by Low German authors from Mondays to Saturdays - “Low German morning chats”, as it is called in the broadcast's subtitle. When the series started, the contributions were often far more than twice the size. An alternative subtitle promises "Alldagsgeschichten op Platt opgaabelt", ie everyday stories presented in Low German (actually: picked up). The authors read themselves.

In the history of the series, the schedule was at times structured in such a way that each day of the week was assigned to a specific author. In 1977 Hans Henning Holm always read on Tuesdays and Ewald Christophers on Wednesdays .

In 2006 the series was awarded the Low German Literature Prize of the city of Kappeln .
