Site plan of the Haunetalsperre dam

The Haunetalsperre of the Haune water association is with dam and reservoir (called Haunestausee or Haunesee ) a small dam and at the same time flood retention basin (HRB) on the Haune near the village of Marbach in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda and belongs to the catchment area of the Weser source river Fulda . Its dam is 230 m long and the Haunestausee (also: Marbachstausee or Marbachsee ) belonging to the facility is 15.2 ha (at 0.29 million m³) in permanent damming and 75.4 ha (at 3.18 m³) in full damming (with flood protection area) Million m³).

The always dammed reservoir with its flood protection area primarily serves the flood protection of the towns below it on the Haune (such as Rückers ) and with the HRB Treysa-Ziegenhain , HRB Heidelbach and Antrifttalsperre dams the flood protection of the towns on the Fulda.

It is also used as a local recreation area. The southern part is under nature protection .

Geographical location

The Haunetalsperre dam is located west of the Kuppenrhön just under 1 km east of the center of the village of Marbach , part of the Petersberg municipality . The Haune flows through its reservoir approximately in a south-north direction , and the Marbach water flowing from the village of Marbach flows in from the west .

Immediately north-northeast of the reservoir rises the Eichberg ( 367.7  m above sea  level ). The southern part of the reservoir belongs to the Haunestausee nature reserve near Marbach (NSG No. 318510), which was founded in 2003 and is 28 hectares in size.

history

Because the Haune often had strong floods and flooded large parts of the villages on the river, the Haunetalsperre was built: Construction began in autumn 1983 and ended in spring 1988; the topping-out ceremony took place in the summer of 1988. The first phase of the trial construction began on February 1, 1988 and ended with the second phase in spring 1989, after which the dam went into operation.

dam

The Haunetalsperre was constructed as an earth embankment made of broken red sandstone , including a water-side dam made of asphalt and a hearth wall built at the foot of the dam as a connecting element to the diaphragm wall (85 m long, 15 m deep and 60 cm thick) as an additional seal. It is about 230 m long and 14 m high above the foundation level. The crown height is 283  m above sea level. NN . The dam has a volume of around 78,000 m³. Its slope inclination is 1: 2.25 to 1:12 on the air side and 1: 2.25 to 1: 3 on the water side . The regular discharge is 12.50 m³ / s.

In the North-third of the dam is a made of reinforced concrete existing attack building as flood relief system with two overflow valves integrated. Immediately below this is the permanent drainage facility, with the water flowing westwards through a bottom outlet into an underground channel in the dam to the outlet structure and shortly afterwards further north through the Haune.

The hydropower plant integrated into the bottom outlet of the dam generates a maximum of 68 KW of electricity .

Reservoir

The Haunestausee has a normal storage space of 3.18 million m³. The design flood for a 100-year flood is 74.8 m³ / s. The storage space is designed for around 151 km² of precipitation or catchment area , which makes up around 30.2% of the total catchment area of the Haune. In permanent traffic jams, the reservoir should only go up to 275  m above sea level. NN can be filled with 0.29 million m³ of water. At high tide, the lake level can rise to 281.5  m above sea level. NN ( congestion destination ) rise. The additional 2.89 million m³, which the reservoir then absorbs as part of its flood protection area, increases the water surface from the normal 15.2 ha (according to other information 15.6 ha) in permanent damming to 75.4 ha Part of the water from the Haune was retained in the reservoir and later released into the lower reaches.

The reservoir is around 1.3 km long and a maximum of around 170 m wide. The reservoir floor lies in front of the dam foot at 271  m above sea level. NN and the water level of the Haune below the dam at 270.5  m above sea level. NN .

Work on rivers and infrastructure

During the construction of the dam, the section of the Haune water body located in it was designed as an underground canal. In addition, access roads to the dam and on and on it walking, hiking and control paths and a circular path around the reservoir were created. West past the lead at the reservoir in north-south trunk road  27 ( Bernhard - Marbach - Rückers ) and the parallel scale to Bebra-Fulda railway with a west of the dam, the Haune traversing viaduct and a little further south of it operated until 1980 Station Marbach . From the parking lot on the B 27 you can reach the reservoir through an underpass under the railway line a little south of the dam.

leisure

The area around the reservoir, which is located between forests in the north and east and agricultural areas in the south and west, serves as a local recreation area and is mainly used by anglers, water sports enthusiasts and hikers. The Haunetal cycle path , which branches off from the nearby Milseburgradweg , leads directly past . This path is part of a Camino de Santiago .
