Heinrich Karl Albert Freiherr von und zu Egloffstein (born July 15, 1845 in Weimar ; † December 28, 1914 ) was a Prussian infantry general and court marshal .

Life

origin

Heinrich came from the noble family von Egloffstein . He was the son of the President of the Higher Regional Court in Jena Julius von Egloffstein (1809-1884) and his wife Marie, née Vitzthum von Egersberg (1817-1885). His brothers Klaus (1844–1933) and Wilhelm (1853–1929) also rose to become generals of the infantry.

Military career

Egloffstein attended grammar school in Weimar and the Roßleben monastery school . On March 11, 1864, as a three-year-old volunteer with the prospect of promotion to the Brandenburg Jäger Battalion No. 3 of the Prussian Army , he took part in the transition to Alsen during the war against Denmark in the same year . With his promotion to Second Lieutenant Egloffstein was transferred to the 2nd Silesian Jäger Battalion No. 6 on October 11, 1865 . During the German War he was initially with the mobile unit and from June 25 to August 28, 1866 with the replacement company of the battalion. With his association Egloffstein fought in the war against France in the battle near Pfalzburg , received the Iron Cross 2nd class, and took part in the siege of Paris . On October 20, 1870 he was commanded to the 2nd Reserve Jäger Battalion, where he acted as an adjutant and was used to secure the stage line in the Champagne until January 29, 1871 .

After the preliminary peace at Versailles , Egloffstein was appointed personal adjutant to the Duke of Saxony-Altenburg on March 12, 1871 . He was promoted to prime lieutenant in July 1871 and captain in April 1876 . After relinquishing his position as personal adjutant, he was transferred as company commander to the Emperor Franz Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 2 on April 19, 1877 . In September 1883 Egloffstein took part in the general staff tour of the Guard Corps . On January 12, 1884, he was appointed 2nd adjutant to War Minister Paul Bronsart von Schellendorff , with a position à la suite of the regiment . Left in this command and promoted to the superfluous major , he was transferred à la suite to the Guard Fusilier Regiment on May 29, 1884 . From November 20, 1888 to January 26, 1890 he worked as a battalion commander in the 1st Guards Regiment on foot and was then assigned the functions of the regular staff officer . When he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 24, 1890, he was appointed to this position. Under position à la suite of the regiment, Egloffstein was commissioned on January 27, 1893 with the leadership of the 1st Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry (Life Guard) Regiment No. 115 and on February 14, 1894 he was appointed as a colonel as regimental commander.

On June 12, 1894 Egloffstein entered the court service of Kaiser Wilhelm II . He was therefore put to the disposition with the statutory pension and at the same time employed again with the 2nd contingent of the 1st Guard Landwehr Regiment. As Court Marshal Egloffstein stood à la suite in the army and in this position he was awarded the character of Lieutenant General on April 10, 1901 and of General of the Infantry on June 16, 1913. In addition, on January 27, 1911, he received permission to wear the uniform of the Emperor Franz Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 2. He died unmarried in his service during the First World War .
