Hermann Leopold Ludwig von Blankenburg (born May 21, 1851 in Hechingen , † March 13, 1922 ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Blankenburg was the son of a Prussian lieutenant colonel and his wife, a born Maassen.

Military career

After his education in his parents' house and attending a grammar school , Blankenburg joined the 4th Lower Silesian Infantry Regiment No. 51 of the Prussian Army on May 22, 1868 . There he was promoted to secondary lieutenant in mid-October 1869 and took part in the bombardment of Pfalzburg , the battles at Thiais and Choisy-le-Roi and the siege of Paris in 1870/71 during the war against France . After the peace treaty , Blankenburg graduated from the War Academy for further training and rose to Prime Lieutenant in March 1878 . On January 14, 1879, he was transferred to the 2nd Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 11 . From there he was commanded on April 20, with effect from May 1, 1879, initially for one year to serve with the Great General Staff . This command was extended for another year until Blankenburg was finally transferred to the General Staff of the Army on May 3, 1881, left with the General Staff, and promoted to captain on October 11, 1881 . This was followed by assignments in the General Staff of the 5th Army Corps and the 28th Division . Under position à la suite of the General Staff of the Army, Blankenburg was given leave of absence on October 1, 1886 and sent to Tokyo as a teacher at the Japanese Army University for two years .

After his return to Germany, Blankenburg was appointed as a major on March 22, 1889, to the battalion commander in Infantry Regiment No. 129 . A year later he was transferred back to the General Staff of the Army and transferred to the General Staff of the XIV Army Corps in Karlsruhe . From mid-March 1893 Blankenburg was active in the general staff of the Metz governorate , rose to lieutenant colonel in April 1893 and was appointed chief of the general staff of the XV on May 14, 1894 . Army Corps appointed in Strasbourg . In this position he was promoted to colonel on June 16, 1896 and one year later he was given command of the infantry regiment "Herwarth von Bittenfeld" (1st Westphalian) No. 13 . Subsequently, Frankenberg was transferred to the Army General Staff with the management of the business of a Quartermaster and promoted to Major General on July 3, 1899 . From November 16, 1899, he was also a member of the study commission of the War Academy and was appointed senior quartermaster on July 22, 1900. In this position he received the Grand Cross of the Franz Joseph Order . From May 18 to October 18, 1901, Blankenburg was assigned to represent the sick commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade in Stettin . On January 27, 1902 , after being relieved of his position as head quartermaster, Frankenberg was appointed commander of the 26th Infantry Brigade in Cologne . In approval of his leave request to set him on August 14, 1902 award of the character as a Lieutenant General with the statutory board for disposition .

He was holder of the Red Eagle Order II. Class with Oak Leaves and the Crown Order II. Class. After his departure, Blankenburg lived in Zwölfmalgrei near Bozen .
