Hermann von Brandenstein (born August 18, 1868 in Cannstatt , † December 24, 1942 in Magdeburg ) was a German infantry general .

Life

Brandenstein occurred on 1 April 1886 as a cadet in the Fusilier Regiment "Emperor Franz Josef of Austria, King of Hungary" (4 Württembergisches) no. 122 of the Württemberg army in Heilbronn a. There he was appointed ensign on December 7, 1886 and on September 7, 1887 he was promoted to second lieutenant . At the same time as his promotion to Prime Lieutenant , Brandenstein came to Strasbourg on September 12, 1894, to the Infantry Regiment "Grand Duke Friedrich von Baden" (8th Württembergisches) No. 126 . He then acted from October 1, 1896 to December 31, 1898 as an adjutant of the Molsheim district command . Brandenstein then served again in Infantry Regiment No. 126 and on January 27, 1902, became a captain and company commander . With the outbreak of World War I Brandenstein was appointed commander of the III. Battalion of the Landwehr Infantry Regiment No. 125, with which he was deployed on the Western Front after the mobilization . Brandenstein was seriously wounded there on August 24, 1914. After hospital stay and recovery, he took over the 2nd Battalion of Infantry Regiment No. 120 on April 1, 1915. On August 9, 1916, he was appointed commander of the Infantry Regiment "Alt-Württemberg" (3rd Württembergisches) No. 121 and in this capacity he became lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1918 .

After the end of the war and demobilization , Brandenstein was accepted into the Reichswehr , initially as commander of the 26th Reichswehr Infantry Regiment from June 25, 1919, and appointed commander of the Münsingen military training area on October 1, 1920 . On December 18, 1920, he was promoted to colonel . From October 1st, 1922 Brandenstein was in command of Stuttgart for six months and then took over the 14th (Baden) Infantry Regiment in Constance .

With simultaneous promotion to major general on April 1, 1925, Brandenstein was appointed Infantry Leader IV. He was to hold this command until his departure on October 31, 1927. As a lieutenant general , he retired from active service and retired.

On August 27, 1939, the so-called Tannenberg Day , Brandenstein was given the character of General of the Infantry.
