Holzhausen is a district of Hatzfeld in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .
The place is in the Ederbergland in the wooded heights of the Ederberge on the Eder .
history
The first written mention of Holzhausen goes back to the year 1274. In a document dated February 2, 1274, Berta von Schweinsberg, née Countess von Hatzfeld, gave her goods to the Haina monastery in Holzhausen.
At the time it was first mentioned, Holzhausen belonged to the Battenberg family , a branch of the Wittgenstein family. Against the background of the territorial aspirations of the two more powerful territorial lords, the Landgrave of Hesse and the Archbishop of Mainz, the Battenbergers had recognized the feudal sovereignty of the Bishop of Mainz . This means that at the time when it was first mentioned in a document, Holzhausen was under the control of the Archbishop of Mainz.
A document dated March 31, 1297, which for a long time was regarded as the first written mention of Holzhausen, testifies that the inhabitants of the village of Holzhausen sold a grain harvest. The fact that the residents of Holzhausen are named as contractual partners in this document allows the conclusion that at that time the residents of the village were free people and not serfs.
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Holzhausen in 1830:
"Holzhausen (L. Bez. Battenberg) evangel. Branch village; is located on the Eder, 1 St. from Battenberg, has 1 church, 54 houses and 342 residents who are Protestant except for 4 Catholics. There are 4 mills in the area, including three grinding and oil mills, with which two cutting mills are connected, followed by a loh mill. "
Territorial reform
On 1 April 1971. Holzhausen was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse on a voluntary basis in the city Hatzfeld (Eder) (former spelling Hatzfeld / Eder ) incorporated . Holzhausen one as for the rest of the city local district with the town council and mayor formed.
