IC 1008 = IC 4414 is an interacting pair of galaxies of the Hubble type P + C in the constellation Bear Guardian in the northern sky . It is an estimated 405 million light years from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered by Truman Henry Safford on May 4, 1866 .
