IC 1003 is a compact galaxy with an active galactic nucleus from Hubble type ce0 in the constellation Virgo the northern sky . It is an estimated 363 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5551 , IC 1001 , IC 1002 , IC 1007 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on June 29, 1892 .
