IC 993 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S in the constellation Bear Keeper in the northern sky . It is estimated 340 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 30,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies NGC 5531 , NGC 5532 , IC 994 , among others .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 27, 1891 .
