IC 982 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SA0 + in the constellation Bear Keeper in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 245 million light years from the Milky Way . Together with IC 983 , it forms the galaxy pair Arp 117 . Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class of elliptical galaxies close to spiral galaxies and disturbing them (Arp catalog) .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 27, 1891 .
