IC 3381 is a faint , elliptical dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 28 million light years from the Milky Way and approximately 10,000 light years across. Together with twelve other galaxies, it forms the NGC 4442 group ( LGG 288 ) and is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VCC 1087 . In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4452 , IC 794 , IC 3358 , IC 3413 .

The object was discovered by Arnold Schwassmann on September 12, 1900 .
