Insana is a district ( Kecamatan ) of the Indonesian administrative district ( Indonesian Kabupaten ) of North Central Timor (Timor Tengah Utara) in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur) on the island of Timor . The administrative headquarters are in Oelolok in Desa Ainiut .

Insana is located in the south-east of the administrative district of North Central Timor. Insana borders in the north on the districts Biboki Tanpah and South Biboki (Biboki Selatan) , in the west on the districts Central Insana (Insana Tengah) and Westinsana (Insana Barat) and in the south on the district South Bikomi (Bikomi Selatan) . To the east is the Malaka administrative district . Insana has an area of 333.08 km². The population density is 61.00 inhabitants per square kilometer. Insana 12,640 hectares are forested.
The district is divided into 17 administrative villages. 16 of them are defined as Desa , but Bitauni is a Kelurahan , in which the village chief is not elected, but appointed as a public employee by the district. The largest "village" is Oenbit with 2,434 inhabitants on an area of 81.00 km². Its main town is the only one of the villages that is between 500 m and 700 m above sea level . All others are under 500 m .
The tropical climate is determined by a rainy season from December to March and a dry season from June to September. In 2016, a total of 1,001 mm of precipitation fell on 68 rainy days.
Residents
In 2016 there were 20,274 people (10,040 men and 10,234 women) in 4,842 households in the district. In 2016 there were 370 births and 132 deaths in the district. 2,381 residents were 0 to 4 years old, 328 were 75 years or older.
19,495 people profess the Catholic faith, 458 people are Protestants and 321 Muslims. There are two Catholic churches, 16 chapels, a Protestant church and a mosque in the district.
history
The name of the district is derived from the ancient Timorese empire of Insana . This was one of the empires that, as a vassal of Wehale , placed themselves under the sovereignty of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) with the Treaty of Paravicini in 1756 .
Public facilities
The district has one kindergarten, 22 elementary schools, eight junior high schools, and two senior high schools with a total of 460 teachers. 69 health facilities are available for medical care.
Economy and Infrastructure
255.51 km² of the district are used for agriculture.
Rice was grown on 319 hectares in 2015 in the district and 2,008 tons were harvested. A harvest of 16,452 tons of maize was achieved on 7,864 hectares and 5,184 tons of cassava were produced on 500 hectares.
The fruits harvested in 2016 were avocados (3.9 tons), mangoes (25.0 tons), bananas (128.0 tons) and pineapples (3.6 tons). Other agricultural products are peanuts, green beans, tomatoes, eggplants, pumpkins, water spinach , coconuts, coffee, cashew nuts, cocoa, light nuts , kapok , Arecanüsse , vanilla, cotton, tobacco, Tamarind and betel nuts. In total there are 7,852 hectares of arable land in the district. In 2016, the livestock were 1,289 cattle, three water buffalo, 51 horses, 801 goats, 3,940 pigs and 15,218 chickens.
43 people work in 29 craft or small industrial companies. These are companies from the textile, leather and wood industries. There are also 38 small traders in the district. Other service providers in the district are two copy shops and six tire dealers.
