Bikomi Nilulat is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district is located in the west of the administrative district of North Central Timor (Timor Tengah Utara) of the East Nusa Tenggara Province (Nusa Tenggara Timur) . Bikomi Nilulat is divided into two non-contiguous territories. In between lies the Musi district . To the east is the district of Central Bikomi (Bikomi Tengah) and south of South Miomaffo (Miomaffo Selatan) . In the east, Bikomi Nilulat borders on the Oe-Cusse Ambeno exclave belonging to the state of East Timor .

Bikomi Nilulat has an area of ​​82 km² and is divided into the six Desa . Sunkaen , Nainaban and Inbate are in the northern territory, Nilulat , Tubu and Haumeni'Ana in the south. The administrative headquarters are in Sunkaen. Nilulat is 1012  m above sea level , while Nainaban is only 542  m above sea level. As usual in Timor, the climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season .

Residents

In 2017 there were 4,532 residents in Bikomi Nilulat. 2,239 are men and 2,284 are women. The population density is 55.2 people per square kilometer. 4,331 people profess the Catholic faith and 192 are Protestants. There are seven Catholic chapels and three Protestant churches in the district.

history

Soldiers of the armed forces of Indonesia and 200 pro-Indonesian militiamen of the Sakunar ( Scorpio ) murdered 17 people during Operation Donner between September 7 and 9, 1999 in the East Timorese villages of Tumin , Quiubiselo , Nonquican (all Suco Bobometo ) and Nibin ( Usitaqueno ) with machetes and firearms. Houses were burned down and the survivors were deported to the Indonesian side of the border. When they arrived in Inbate, 55 young men were separated, handcuffed and beaten by soldiers, police and militiamen. On the morning of September 10th they were herded on foot into the East Timorese Passabe and shot and stabbed to death there. Eight men escaped.

Economy, infrastructure and transport

Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (2,668), buffalo (2), pigs (1,686), goats (136) and chickens (6,434) are kept as pets. Corn is grown on 263 hectares, rice on 303 hectares, manioc on 37 hectares, sweet potatoes on eight hectares and peanuts on eight hectares. Other agricultural products are chilli, tomatoes, eggplant and cucumber.

There are seven primary schools, two middle schools and one secondary school in Bikomi Nilulat.

Public transport is operated by eight minibuses, five pick-ups , one bus, 98 motorcycles and one other vehicle.
