action

In 1958, nuclear tests were carried out on a tropical, apparently uninhabited island in the Caribbean , the consequences of which were not foreseeable at the time. In the course of these experiments, a family of three who are illegally staying on the test site is exposed to increased intensity of ionizing radiation . The scandalous process goes unnoticed. The contaminated area later becomes a restricted military area .

At the present time mysterious events are taking place near the said island. In the surrounding coastal villages, mutilated corpses are washed up by fishermen and monstrous crabs are sighted. The superstitious population fears the wrath of a murderous monster, whereupon the government opens an investigation. Navy Lieutenant Hardy is assigned to lead a research expedition to the remote island. The eight-person expedition team led by Lieutenant Hardy includes nuclear physicist Prof. Lemuan and his assistant, the biologist couple Keller, the lovable zoologist Dorcin de Saint Jacques and two sailors.

When they arrive at their tropical destination, the scientists immediately begin investigating the biological mutations . In the evening, some researchers are attacked by a mysterious, stoic stranger. The debilitating attacker, a contaminated survivor of past nuclear weapons tests, first kills Professor Keller and, after being raped, his hypersexual wife Simone. More murders follow. In addition, the attractive Annie is kidnapped by the islander. Hardy and two survivors now notice the disappearance of the rest of the tour company and the loss of the ship.

The next morning the trio found a small dinghy with which reporter Benoît reached the island at a different time. After the dying journalist informs them about the uncanny events, other people fall victim to the monster. In the end, Officer Hardy manages to fatally injure the mutant. The two remaining survivors, Hardy and his lover Annie, ultimately leave the island. D'Amato staged his work directly after the film “In der Macht der Zombies” (1980). The filmmaker used both the location and the cast of the previous film; only actress Laura Gemser will be replaced by quasi-double Lucia Ramirez.

Depending on the cut, the production also contains hardcore sex scenes. The common cut version in Germany is 75 minutes, while the original version is 113 minutes.
