action

The young model Françoise catches her gambling addict friend Carlo red-handed with another woman. Carlo, who has taken advantage of the model several times in the past and also referred her to other men for a fee, decides on his love affair and quickly separates from the jealous Françoise. These vain attempts then to contact her sister Emanuelle, then commits but out of desperation suicide .

In the hospital, the journalist Emanuelle Françoises is handed farewell letter. In it the editor learns that there is a connection between the death of the beloved family member and their friend Carlo. Emanuelle seeks revenge and forges a diabolical plan. She lures the philanderer into her house, gives him drugs and locks him chained in a secret, soundproof booth . There the prisoner wakes up and can see through a one-way mirror into the neighboring living room without being seen himself. Influenced by drugs and dehydration , from then on he observes what Emanuelle is doing with various men in the bedroom and slowly begins to hallucinate bloody horror scenarios and cannibalistic acts .

After days of torture, the avenger reveals herself to the astonished Carlo as the sister of the suicidal woman Françoise. She wants to emasculate her defenseless victim so that Carlo no longer plunges women into misery in the future. By carelessness, however, the victim can free himself and immediately seeks retribution. Emanuelle tries to escape, but is finally caught and murdered by Carlo. At the same time angry neighbors alerted the police by Emanuelle's screams. Carlo panics when the officers arrive and hides in the secret cabin, which cannot be opened from the inside, which ultimately seals his fate.

background

  • The Torture Garden of Sensuality was Joe D'Amato's first film to have a significant share of the erotic as a theme. In the years that followed, the director made numerous other erotic films. In the Torture Garden of Sensuality, the sex scenes predominate in the first half of the film. In the following, the scenes that can be assigned to the horror genre take over. Overall, the staging can therefore not be classified into a clear genre.
  • The idea for the film came from D'Amato's friend Bruno Mattei , who then shot the camp film KZ 09 .
  • The provocative content of Torture Garden of Sensuality prompted the German distributor under producer Erwin C. Dietrich to cut out well over 20 minutes from the film and instead insert alternative scenes not intended by D'Amato, which D'Amato had previously done with Brigitte Lahaie for other productions and that included hardcore footage. Eastman's hallucination of his tormentor eating human flesh with her guests was not shown at all. This version was only published in Germany and until recently was the only German-language version of the film. When it was released in theaters, four years after the first exploitation in Italy in 1975, the Torture Garden of Sensuality was severely curtailed.
  • The film had its Italian premiere on November 5, 1975. In the Federal Republic of Germany it was first shown on November 10, 1979 and was released on June 27, 2005 on DVD .

criticism

The lexicon of international films called the result “an embarrassingly stupid work” , while RP in Corriere della Sera came to the conclusion that the film arouses false expectations of erotomaniac with its title, but is in reality a modest thriller on an erotic basis.
