Name of the processor core: | Coffee Lake |
The Intel Xeon series based on the Intel Coffee Lake microarchitecture is a family of 64-bit microprocessors for servers and workstations from Intel . Coffee-Lake is the Intel code name for the second revision of the Skylake micro-architecture. The actual microarchitecture was hardly changed, the production process with a 14 nm structure size was revised twice with regard to lower leakage currents and is now called 14nm ++ . Like Kaby-Lake , this code name thus deviates from the previous tick-tock development model from Intel: there is neither a downsizing of the structure nor a revision of the microarchitecture; instead, Intel speaks of optimizations. The naming scheme E3 / E5 / E7 will evidently be abandoned (as with the Xeon Scalable processor ). The processors largely correspond to the 8th generation Intel Core i-series processors.
Xeon E
In April 2018, the Xeon E series with two mobile processors, each with 6 CPU cores, was released. They are the direct successors of the Xeon-Kaby-Lake series (Xeon E3-v6) and, like these, are built for single-processor systems. In July 2018, 10 processor models for floor standing computers with the LGA1151v2 socket will follow. There are also variants with processor graphics and only 4 processor cores.
The number of main memory channels (2), maximum main memory size (64 GB), number of PCIe 3.0 lanes (16) and the soldering base BGA1440 were retained compared to the previous Xeon E3-v6 series, the number of cores increased from 4 to 6, the ECC of the main memory is different to the Core-i - 8th generation processors supported, a new chipset (series 300) is required and thus new motherboards. The processor graphic is the Intel UHD Graphics 630 unit, which now supports so-called UHD 4K monitors (see also image resolution ) with 60 Hz.
