As Celeron Dual-Core , Intel describes a family of dual-core processors (dual-core) that are sold as particularly inexpensive processors under the name of Intel Celeron . As the successor to the Intel Celeron (Core), it is the first dual-core processor family in the low-cost segment.

Technical

Like the predecessors with only one core, the multi-core processors based on the Intel Core microarchitecture on the L3 cache are trimmed and some features are missing in contrast to higher-priced processors.

The Celeron Dual-Core is offered for Socket 775 , is based on the Intel Core microarchitecture and thus supports Intel 64 . The processor family also supports the EIST energy saving function , which was deactivated in earlier Celeron processors.

From August 5, 2011, there will be Celeron G versions for the 1155 socket , based on the Sandy Bridge architecture. They have the same processor cores as the Core i3 processors on the same architecture and also have a graphics processor integrated into the chip. However, they have no SMT / Hyper-Threading , are clocked more slowly, have less cache and the new instruction set extension AVX , which was introduced with "Sandy Bridge" for Core-i processors, is missing . The graphics unit has also lost all of its additional features in the Celeron. This lacks Intel's "Quick Sync" technology, which can be used for fast encoding of videos with certain codecs. The decoding functions have also been restricted so that the "Clear Video HD" technology and "InTru-3D" technology cannot be used.
