Intel processor model numbers

The microprocessor manufacturer Intel has been naming its desktop and mobile products since April 2004 by the model name with numbers (called model rating). According to this rating system, the higher its number, the better the functionality of a processor . The first digit indicates in which segment the CPU is arranged. The next two digits should not represent the pure performance within the series, but refer to special features such as low power consumption or features such as EM64T. However, especially in the desktop segment, models with a high clock frequency also have a higher number. In the mobile sector, however, processors with lower power consumption also have higher numbers, despite a much lower clock frequency.

This system was expanded with the introduction of the Xeon and Pentium M dual-core processors at the end of 2005. A four-digit number rating was introduced which, together with a suffix (for Pentium M), indicates the processor's equipment.
