James "Jamie" Robert McGinn V. (born August 5, 1988 in Fergus , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League until July 2019 .
Career
McGinn began his career in the 2004/05 season with the Ottawa 67’s in the Ontario Hockey League . In his rookie season , McGinn improved steadily and was able to post eleven points in 18 games in the playoffs after he had scored 22 points in 59 games in the regular season. In the following two years of play, the winger steadily increased his points. At the end of the 2006/07 season he led the entire team of the 67's with 89 points by scorer points and was elected to the third all-star team in the league.
After leaving the play-offs, McGinn signed a contract with the Worcester Sharks , the farm team of the San Jose Sharks , who had selected him in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft in the second round in 36th position. Since the AHL season was not over, McGinn played his first professional games there. In the summer break that followed, he first took part in the San Jose Sharks training camp, but was sent back to the Ottawa 67's along with his teammate Logan Couture . In his fourth OHL season, the Canadian clearly missed the renewed increase in his point yield, as he missed a few games due to protracted back problems. After the end of the season, the Worcester Sharks called him again in the AHL squad, where he was finally able to work out a regular place for the AHL season 2008/09 . After good performance in the first competitive games for Worcester, he finally received his first invitation to the NHL squad San Joses and made his NHL debut a few days later. During the season, the striker completed 35 NHL games in which he scored six points. He was also used in 47 games for the AHL Sharks.
On February 27, 2012, the San Jose Sharks transferred him along with Mike Connolly and Michael Sgarbossa in exchange for Daniel Winnik , TJ Galiardi and a seven-round vote for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft to the Colorado Avalanche . Jamie McGinn completed 17 games for the Avalanche in the 2011/12 season , scoring eight goals and a total of 13 points . As part of the NHL Entry Draft 2015 , McGinn and Ryan O'Reilly were handed over to the Buffalo Sabers . Colorado received Buffalo's second-round voting rights for this draft as well as Mikhail Grigorenko , Nikita Sadorow and JT Compher in return .
In February 2016, shortly before the end of the transfer deadline, he was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a performance-based third-round vote in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft . The draft pick will become a second-round vote for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft if the Ducks reach the final of the Western Conference in the 2016 playoffs and McGinn plays at least half of the games. This did not subsequently occur.
After the 2015/16 season, McGinn did not get a new contract in Anaheim, so he joined the Arizona Coyotes as a free agent in July 2016 . This, however, gave him to the Florida Panthers after one season in September 2017 and received Jason Demers in return . McGinn was active in Florida until the end of the 2018/19 season before his expiring contract was not renewed.
